is there a way to do an alpha with uneven strings without adding an extra string to the pattern?

there is not, but the extra string, just weave it in for a few rows and then cut it off, if you need me to explain it better, just ask because i did a terrible job lol

you can do a start without a loop and just start straight. if i want to do a loop with uneven strings, i’ll cut the strings to what i want, subtracting one. i.e. the pattern requires 21 base strings, i’ll cut 10 (folding in half for 21) and then take my leading string, make a loop, and then use the end of my leading string as another base string…. idk if that makes sense. lmk if u have any question by tagging me with an @

MashaKnots has a video on making a loop with an uneven amount of strings. It's for normal patterns, but I think the same technique can work for alphas as well. I'm sure that you'll figure it out, when you see the video.
