How long does it usually take you to make an alpha pattern bracelet

I'm curious to know how much time you spend on a bracelet, for example maybe #79422. I spent few hours on something similar and I don't know if that is too slow, and it may help me make a timetable for myself. Also,, do you prefer to do it all at once or do you give yourself few days to make a bracelet/wall hanging?

Ofc it will vary on size, color switches, skill level etc. but this is just in general.

It usually takes me a week, I usually knot for an hour or two a day

@woozi i did #49363 as my first alpha and it took me aprox. 22h total. Today i finished #13759 after, idk, maybe 14-16h total, which i've been making for 2 days. You'll get better and faster after some time and gaining experience. Remember, it's supposed to be fun hobby that you enjoy, don't be hard on yourself and take your time! after all spending more time to fix and make tighter knots is better than doing it as fast as you can, ignoring the errors, which then may mess up the whole bracelet/keychain. Have a nice day and don't give up! ❤️

Based on previous ones I've done, that pattern would take me approx four hours start to finish elapsed time. A bit faster if I'm not watching TV while knotting. I cut about 6 hours off my alpha making time by cutting my leading string instead of fumbling with a bobbin so I can churn them out fairly quickly now.

I think a few hours is about right for that size.

For me, the time is completely variable. I try to knot late at night after everyone has gone to bed so I can have 3-5 hours of uninterrupted time to concentrate while listening to audio books, but even then, it might take another day or two to finish the last rows or closure part.

Sometimes I start a project while watching TV with my husband, but that’s when I make mistakes and have to undo a bunch of rows, so it takes much longer. I've also tried to fit knotting in my free time for a few minutes several times during the day, but too many interruptions usually make my knots inconsistent, and it will still take days or weeks at that rate, if I’m not totally dedicated.

The color switches definitely make a big difference for me. Like #58520 was so tedious, I abandoned it for several months before finally devoting myself to finish it over the course of about 3 or 4 days, working a couple hours at a time. Whereas #82857 seemed to go much quicker even though it was larger, and it was more enjoyable to knot and see progress with longer stretches of color. But it probably took about 4 or 5 days total, maybe 2 or 3 hours each session. I'm not totally sure how accurate those times are tho, I'm just guessing!

And #38924 took soooo much longer than #80295 but I made both with a clean back, so the color switches on the first one were severely intense, I almost wanted to cry sometimes 😅so I just slowed it way down, and that one took around 2 weeks vs only 2 days for the simple flower one.

I think if it's your job to work on bracelets daily and you have tons of experience, the process goes much smoother with a quicker rhythm, but that's not me!
Overall, I’m extremely satisfied if I can finish any type of alpha project (small bracelets or keychains) in 3-6 hours👍 but most things usually take several days to weeks because I’m a slow perfectionist 😂 I'd rather take my time to have it look nice than be done too quickly and look sloppy.

@Genki oh yes! Just using reasonable lengths of leading string is a key point... it's so much easier and less tangly!
I used to think that working with the whole skein would save on wasted length, but I can knot down to one inch of remaining string before having to add in more. And I can always use up my scraps😁

@sodapop: Oh yeah the comment about clean backs and a lot of color switches. That does make it so much longer! Strangely though I think learning the flat alpha technique (once i got it into my muscle memory) made my knotting quicker. Also made adding in new strings much easier and thus faster.

@sodapop Ah the clean back alpha technique. So tedious but also so satisfying when you’re done!

To answer the original question: the few alphas I’ve made took me about three to four days each, split over two weeks (in pockets of time varying anywhere from two to six hours straight, while watching tv/listening to a podcast).

@Genki @minutcraft

Oh yes, I think the flat alpha technique definitely makes color switching easier, I use it always no matter what. I just wish I didn't have to think so hard for the clean back... if only all the strings would just magically tuck themselves away lol 🧞‍♂️😂

@sodapop 😂 Don’t we all. The worst is when you discover you’ve dropped a string at the wrong place somewhere like two rows later, and it’s not somewhere you can correct by carrying the string forward a few places. Then you need to decide if you’re going to unknot two rows at this point or do something else 😂
