Hi everyone! So I I’ve only been on the website for about two days, but I’m not new to bracelets. What I am new to is wall hangings. I keep seeing them and have no idea how they work. Like nothing. Absolutely no idea. So if anyone is really good at them or has been doing them for a long time or just know how could you explain it to me?

Here are two videos:

Basically what you do is, you attach your base strings to a dowel using larks head knots. There's not much more to it. 😄

Adding on to what @halokiwi said, wallhangings are really just big alpha patterns. I usually classify wall hangings as 30 strings plus. You can always start wallhangings with shaped starts, but the wooden dowel method uses a lot less string. Masha Knots also has a tutorial on youtube on wallhangings if you want to go check it out. Hope this helps! ❤️

@hcohrs02 there's already some great advice above, but I wanted to add that my friend likes to use thick base strings on their wall hangings. So, if you were to use embroidery thread for the knots, you may want to try something like yarn underneath for larger knots.

To add on, if a pattern has 31 base strings, I would cut 16 strings (because you make larks head knots and it makes 2 strings out of 1) and use 2 strings as one in order to get 31 base strings

I’d recommend if you do the wooden dowel method (which I prefer) get 3-5mm wooden dowels, they’re the best size in my opinion, there’s loads on amazon for very affordable prices, or even a hardware store or home store may sell them ☺️

For wallhangings I'd suggest using a pattern that is 25 to as many strings wide but its kinda hard to knot with more than 60 strings and takes a long time. You can also make mini wallhangings with less than 25 strings! Use a dowel for the wooden stick part and cut it to the length you want. Then use the larks head knot to attach your base strings to your dowel. When I first started making bracelets my first few rows of knots were larger than the middle of the wallhanging so I'd suggest working on tension of your knots.
