trouble with alphas

Hi! I’ve been making regular patterns for quite and while and have been wanting to get into alphas, however I cannot seem to keep the base strings down, especially for the first few rows. Is there any good way to keep the base strings secured? I find that they always seem to come up, especially when trying to make my knots tight.

A strong tape like washi or duct tape works well or I use a clipboard and it works well for me

It all depends on how many base strings we’re talking about. Personally, I can manage anything 25 strings and below with a good broad clip, but anything more definitely needs to be held down with tape (and don’t be afraid to use more than one to stick them in place!).
