Hey y’all new to the site and the terms and techniques for what I’m thinking of as half hitch weaving… I’ve been knotting friendship bracelets for decades and excited to learn the terms and what the techniques are called, Does such a guide reside here in text or does someone know if such a guide exist nearby?I came across Megan Morris on youtube with her 10 tiporial for faster knotting… Like the two ways of tying knots… the “regular” way was like huh wha!!? and what it alpha??? Thanks |

There are many beginner tutorials on both normal and alpha bracelets. Even if you are not a beginner, they can be helpful for learning the terminologies. There are four types of knots: forwards knot ↘️ (f) , backwards knot ↙️ (b) , forwards backwards knot ↩️ (fb) and backwards forwards knot ↪️ (bf) . Normal patterns can be knotted row-by-row (you strictly follow the pattern, row by row, knot by knot, as if you were reading) and segment knotting (knotting in diagonals as much as possible, this will make knotting faster). There is a special type of normal pattern called 1212 pattern. It only or mostly consists of fb and bf knots. Alpha patterns are always knotted in rows. There are two types of strings in alphas: base strings (the strings you make the knots onto) and leading strings (the strings you make the knots with). To make a knot of a different color, you need to make a color switch. There is the regular color switch and the flat alpha technique. There is also the clean-back alpha technique which is like the flat alpha technique and leads to an alpha where both front and back are clean. In both normals and alphas you can use the straight edges technique. This technique helps to get smoother edges and make the bracelet straighter. You do bf knots on the left edge and fb knots on the right edge. There's probably a lot that I didn't mention, but I hope it helps. |

Thanks for your reply. I learned segment weaving sometime post grade 11 (Didn’t know the name for it then. And it was a gradual development which I’m thankful for. Stripes then x’s and diamonds. So lots of practice wid forwards and backwards noddeng techniques, the thing with tension. Learning the ForwardBaclward and BackwardForward knots were revelatory like huge fracking wow!!!! the freedom (20) it gave designs. At that time I was doing peace work at The Long Hungry Trading Company off of Bennett Ave In Cripple Creek. Deena, the office secretary which was was the position I had applied for taught me the bf FB knoddeng techsniques. Lots of Guatemala Dreams and Jaguar magic from a hulk hogan like paraplegic SOB trader…Is there any history known about where half hitch weaving came from or how long it’s been around. I’ll see what. Anyway. Thanks again. |
