I just started making alphas and I've found that my pieces end up a little elongated, for example, if the pattern is a circle, mine looks like an oval. Does this have to do with knot tension? Pls help me ๐

Hi, usually it doesn't have anything to do with knot tension, but just the way the knots are shaped around the base string. Most people find that it helps if you purchase a thicker thread to use for base strings, or double up on the embroidery floss (ie use 2 threads as one base string). Size 3 crochet thread seems to work fine as a thick base string. Hope this helps! ๐

Maybe try adding an extra string or two on the edges. So if it was a 10 string and another string on each side and make it 12! Hope this helps

Tying your knots looser will normally help with this

@mirbatz I had this same issue but learned that if I push each row up with a ruler then that makes the design look less elongated. Hope this helps ๐
