So Im in the planning/designing stages of making a wrist band for my apple watch and I was creating of using a friendship style band. The parallell idea that Ive been looking at in order to do preliminary design is the keyring idea. The difference might be that the adapter (which I havent gotten in yet) will most likely be more narror than the band size I want to make. How do you (can you even) add in strings for making extra columns without having to pull them through the keyring (adapter) itself? So basically im want to try to make the band wider than the first number of strings by adding in additional strings to the left and right. Is there a technique for this? Im a bit of a newbie still but I (think) understand most instructions (over confidence ftw).

This is not what you asked for but you can make an alpha pattern get thinner like described in this tutorial on keychains https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/130_shaped-keychain-tutorial/You can also make shaped normal patterns if that is what you are looking for. Basically how it works is that you do knots around more than one string at once. If you tell me if you are working on a normal or alpha bracelet, I'm sure I can give you some more tutorials or hints that might help. |

It's probably not going to be an alpha. Im thinking that there might be for example space for only 10 strings to thread through the keychain (or in my case adapter) but eventually I want to continue after a few rows and add in strings so that I end up with 20. I've seen really i want to do is create something that has ultimately 20 strings. So i was looking at @3:57 on https://youtu.be/4plv6rhV9gA and wondering how to do this without putting the string through the keychain.

@jrhoads you may want to look at macrame tutorials for ideas. I can’t think of a specific one right now, but I recall watching a few simply macrame bracelet tutorials before that seemed to add strings as they went along (in fact, if i remember the concept correctly, they attached additional string onto the outermost string in a similar fashion to how string is attached to a keychain/dowel).
