I need some help with my flat alphas because sometimes my knots are slanted and I don't know how to fix it. For example I'm doing pattern #46834 and when I'm doing the gray part and when I start the next row it isn't strait it slanted, so the cup looks weird. Can some one help me.

ur knots will always be slanted, that’s just how the structure works. if ur talkin about the entire row bein slanted, it’s prob cuz ur knots are too tight, try makin them looser and then usin a ruler to make the row straight when ur done

@lucass_ I'm glad to hear that knots are always slanted. I thought it was just because I'm new at alpha bracelets.

I have seen quite a few alphas that seem to have perfectly round knots though—how is that done??

@Ilovekawai try to not pull the loose leading strings behind the bracelet too tight. I once saw a video where someone even cut those strings so that could be useful too. I know I've recently seen it but I can't find it.

You can also always kind of extend the flat alpha technique. Instead of just hiding the old leading string in one knot afterwards you can also hide leading string in knots before starting a new colour. I think the video by @elegantlyk on pattern #28566 talks about it.

@halokiwi Your description of the extended flat alpha technique sounds like the clean alpha technique @mjlgvw made a tutorial for on IG. Maybe @Ilovekawai can try that. If not, Masha Knots aka @Racoon has quite a thorough explanation in her video on How to Make Better Alphas.

@lucass_ May have more to do with how tightly one knots, I think; having doubled my base strings in some places before, I did not observe a rounder knot being produced in those places.

@FoxyChiik0 It’s a little difficult to explain without a visual, so I recommend watching Masha Knot’s YouTube video called “flat alpha bracelets”

some people make their knots look more even and square-like by doubling their base strings. they knot on two base strings instead of 1 and this helps them stop looking slanted as well. I don't have enough thread or money for this but if I did then I would definitely try it! you could try this and tell me how it goes

@sadnymph I've never heard of that technique, maybe I should try it sometime.

Also if the color peaks through when using the flat alpha technique then just pull on the string that’s peaking through (but don’t pull down pull it to the side (if that makes sense)

Your knots are always going to be slanted just because that is the way bracelets work. However, if you want them as straight as possible, then you should probably loosen up your knots. That way you can easily manuvere them into a straight line when they go slanted. I also recommend that you make a bracelet on a clipboard and make it vertically because if you are taping it to something and making it like while it is flat on something then your vision will be warped so that your bracelet rows LOOK straight but they really aren't because of your view. Does that make sense?
I hope this will help you make better and straighter alphas in the future!
Happy knotting!

something that helped me a TON was pushing my knots up. if your knots are loose enough, you can manage them. after every row i take a ruler, bobbin or even a gift card - basically anything thin with a flat edge - and straighten it!! hope this helps!!
