The arrows are telling you what kind of knot you’re making. The color of the circle that the arrow is on tells you what color knot you’re making, and the line underneath the circle tells you what color string you’re making the knot on. I recommend watching a tutorial video on how to read patterns and learning what each knot type is

The colour of the arrow is what colour of string your using to tie the knot. The line underneath is what your tying the knot on to. You should look up a tutorial on YouTube, you should be able to find one.

The arrows pointing to the right are forward knots and the ones pointing to the left are backward knots!

I think this is kind of a difficult thing to explain, I would suggest going onto YouTube and watching some videos. I like the beginner series by Marsha knots. I hope this helps!
