Small number of strings, only 2 colors, words not images to start, and a border around the design

Basically what @yaytoast29 said you want to start with simple. Try something with words or a very basic design with two colours and no colour changes on the edge. My first alpha was a bracelet with my name on it. Once I got good at letters I expanded into symbols and pictures.
