I’m trying to make a keychain with a lobster swivel keychain but the pattern I’m using is 30 wide + 1 for the base string. How do I start the keychain with an odd number of strings and no ties that will come undone? I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere that covered what to do if this happened but I can’t remember where I saw it. Thanks guys!

For example if the pattern had 21 base strings I would fold 11 strings in half and put two strings together so the are one. (You would knot over the 21 and 22 string together). I hope that made sense.

what i do with an odd number is (using hellooooo example) if i had 21 base strings, i cut 10 base strings fold them in half to get 20. and then to add the 21st base string, i cut a super long string and fold it where one side it as long as the base strings that i cut before and then use the other end as my leading string. i hope that makes sense. tag me if you have any other questions on that cuz i dunno if that makes sense lol

If you're using a lark head's knot to attach your strings to your keyring, then what I do is I do a lark head's knot with the bobbin of my leading string and the length of one base string. Ik this is really confusing but I found a video that explains it really well 😊.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LkZSrkJykE&t=307s (Timestamp ~ 5:07) |

I hope this makes sense lool: So since I use the larks heads knots then it doubles over so lets say I have 21 strings (I think this number is just a trend now-) and I fold it it half I need 11 (11+11= 22) and we want one less so we need to get one out (22-1=21) so what i do is I start on the left work my way tot he right then on the second last string on the right I take it and move to the side (almost like when you change colours in alphas), then I just forget it was ever there, after im done I just trim it as close as I can, but its probable best is nail polish it down (strong glue works too!). Haha if you have any questions ask me!

what I like to do in an odd string pattern is just add an extra string to the side or take away a string based on the background color. what @hellooooo said also works (:

For example if the pattern had 16 strings and you needed 15 I would put on the keychain 16 strings and cut off one of the strings

If I’m using embroidery floss with 17 strings, I’ll cut 9 strings double the length I need, loop 8 of them around my d-ring, then take the last one and split the string in half(usually they have 6 fibers, separate it into 3 and 3), then loop the smaller string around. It sounds kinda confusing but you end up with 17 strings, all the same
