how long should i cut the strings

please help, i was wondering how long i should cut each one so that i don’t cut them to little or to long.

I made an actual formula to figure out the exact length you need and if you really want to figure out it’s in the other section of the forum in a couple of the string length posts there. Despite that, I still just hold the loose end of the string in one hand and the skein in the other and open my arms wide as they go.

For normal patterns I do my arm span. For alphas for the base strings I do how long I want the bracelet (including ties) and then I just use the skeins for the knotting string or any extra thread scraps I have.

@kaylalaura if you notice the pattern you want to make has more of a particular colour I would cut a little extra of that colour but generally that’s my go to. There may be some excess but you’d rather have a little extra than not enough.
