Hi I recently learned how to do alpha patterns and create the starting loop, but I was wondering if there was a way to do the beginning loop with an odd number of strings or if there’s a way to do it if I needed only one strand of a color (for a regular pattern not alpha). If there’s not a way it’s totally fine I just liked the look of the starting loop

I’m guessing you are talking about either the actual macrame knotted beginning or the typical beginning where you fold all of the strings in half and tie a not to make a loop. For patterns with odd strings make the string you only need one of and knot/macrame like you need two but don’t knot with the one you don’t need. Sweep it to the side or over your clipboard and cut it off once you finish your project. That’s just what I do and I have never had anything fall apart

*Don’t knot with the extra string you don’t need once you get your loop done.
