how to fix elongated alphas

so i’ve been asking around just to see what everyone’s tips are for “elongated alphas” (if u don’t know what i mean, scroll down into my photos until u find the dachshund wall hanging i made) since knots are more rectangular than square, so what are ur tips? i’ve tried taking out rows of the pattern (which is rlly the only thing that has seemed to fix it, but i want to be able to make the full pattern), looser/tighter knots, and pushing my rows up with a ruler. any help would be greatly appreciated 💕💫🧁

i’ve heard that doubling base strings helps... i haven’t tried it but that’s all i’ve heard

Yes.....when you make tighter knots they tend to be more rectangle then square. If you use double basestrings and maybe looser knots the alpha might turn out less elongated. I hope this helps😁😁
