Do you think that nail polish will work when cutting the string that you do the larkhead knots on? Or should i use another technique?

I use clear nail polish when I cut string off so it should be fine. If you want to be extra careful, you could use fabric glue.

You don't need to patch them up at all, but using nailpolish works!

if you want it to look nicer then you can use clear nail polish but if you always put a new sting in the back and not at the side then you shouldn't need nail polish if you cut the stings on the back short enough but you are always welcome to use the nail polish
