I would always take it slow when doing a wall hanging. I would recount your strings MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE YOU START to make sure you have the right amount. If you can give me the pattern I can look at it and try to help more.

Does this happen when you’re in the middle of the pattern, or when you’re making the first row? If it’s happening when you make the first row, then it sounds like you’re trying to knot onto two base strings at once instead of one at a time.

I would suggest trying to make your base strings a different color from your main leading string so that you don’t end up knotting with it. The same thing happened to me though so I’m not really sure. I’m assuming I just miscounted my strings

@blahblah11 I would suggest starting with an alpha with fewer base strings. Then once you get the hang of it you can move to the bigger and more complicated ones!

I see you have some photos of keychains you’ve made, have you every had this problem with keychains? They’re made using the exact same technique/strategy as wall hangings, so it might be the large size of wall hangings that’s causing the issue. If that’s the case, @mhfw04’s suggestion of practicing with smaller patterns and @oceanknot’s suggestion of make the base strings a different color from the background color seem like good places to start.

@blahblah11 Ok, then I recommend making a keychain-sized wall hanging to see if the problem occurs, and then working your way up to larger wall hangings. Try to pay attention when you’re knotting and make sure you knot onto every single base string in the row. You can double check this after each row by counting the number of knots in the row, and by looking at the back of the wall hanging. When I accidentally skip base strings, they stick out in the back.
