I’ve been making bracelets for a while now, but I haven’t made many alphas. So, my question is, how to you do the straight edges tecqunice when you have to do a color switch. I know that make no sense but take pattern #56564 for example, see the brown dot how it’s on the edge of the bracelet? How do I do the switch but still keep it straight? All mine end up looking really wonky. Pls help, ty!

The straight edges technique doesn’t work on the first and last knots of each row.
I also found this out the hard way

You can just do the straight edges technique like normal by making a brown fb or bf knot (it depends on the direction you’re knotting in) to end the row, and then a pink knot of the same type to start the next row. You won’t be able to do the flat alpha technique when you switch from pink to the brown knot, or when you switch from the brown knot back to pink.

Masha Knots has a video on the flat alpha technique where she shows how to do a color switch on the edge of a bracelet. I found it really helpful and I hope it helps you!

@crafter83 you seem to confuse the flat alpha and the straight edges technique or not do the straight edges technique correctly.

When doing the straight edges technique you replace the knots on the left edge with bf knots and the knots on the right edge with fb knots. Both the first and the last knot of each row gets replaced. That means you always do two bf or fb knots right after each other. If you do only one you are missing knots. You should not run into any problems when doing colour switches while also doing the straight edges technique.

@halokiwi I usually know the difference 🤦‍♀️
I think I got confused cause they talked like the flat alpha technique was their problem

So correction... straight edges technique works on any bracelet, flat alpha technique doesn’t work on the first or last knots of any row
Sorry for the confusion
