The flat alpha uses a different techinque for the color switch, normally you would just hide the color you arent using anymore behind the bracelet and start with the new one. In the flat alpha you kind of put the old leading string inside the first knot of the new leading string, you can search for Msha konts' tutorial. The main difference in the result is that the normal alpha usually gets a little bumpy where the color changes and you can feel it if you touch the bracelet, with the flat alpha that doesnt happen and all the knots feel the same if you touch them.

the regular alpha technique is just when you put the color underneath the rest of the base strings and bring in the new color. The flat alpha technique is when you weave the other leading color halfway through the next color’s knot. The flat alpha technique makes the colors a lot more flat. I prefer the flat alpha technique because I prefer flat bracelets
