I was wondering, how long should the base strings should be when making a alpha bracelet? I looked up tutorials but not many say how long it should be. Since also my wrist is pretty skinny. So i need help!!! 😭

Usually when making a normal pattern, you would cut the number of your strings divided by 2 the size of your wingspan (from one hand stretched across chest to other hand) then fold it in half to get the number of base strings. I think it would be similar for alphas. Once you start making your bracelet, check the length occasionally to compare it to your wrist to see how much knotting you have to do left. Also, always save scraps if you cut it too long. I hope this helps! 🙂

Ok. So divided by 2 would mean if you had your 10 base strings for your pattern, you would cut 5 strings at a wingspan's length then fold them in half creating a loop at one side and raw edges at another. Also, Kinsey b has a great video on reading alpha patterns on YouTube to help you with your alpha if you don't know how to read it yet.

hi! i'm not sure what she meant by divided by 2, but you can stretch your string across your wingspan, or grab one end and bring it to your other end then fold it in half. I think there might be some videos explaining how to measure string or how to decipher your wingspan. Hope this helped, have a great day.

You can measure your wrist with your string and cut it to that length, but also make sure to leave some extra for the ties. Since you won’t actually be knotting with your base strings, so they don’t have to be that longe

The base strings should be as long as your wrist + the ties because you wont make knots with them so they wont become shorter (I would cut them a bit longer than you need just in case). For the other strings, the ones that you actually knot with, It doesnt really matter since you can always add more but, think that the more knots you make with that string, ther longer it should be.

oh i see. I think i am beginning to understand it now. I actually even made the alpha bracelet between my should to my fingertip and it seemed like it worked. since my wrist is really skinny. However, what if I am making a bracelet for someone else who's wrist is bigger? how do I measure it? since i want to make one for one of my family members.

You could just make twisted ties, then make your bracelet adjustable

That’s okay. Here’s a tutorial for making your bracelets adjustable (she also explains how to do twisted ties in the beginning of the video). https://youtu.be/XfdHQb5dxPIIf you have any more questions, let me know, but make sure to tag me like this @oceanknot so that I get a notification. Hey there! I was thinking of trying out the loop in making a alpha bracelet since I never did that with my last bracelet. But how long should the embroidery thread be since I have to fold it to equal the amount of thread. I'm making #15535 and it requires 10 strings so how long is the thread to divide it? 🤔
