I know alphas go in a left and right direction, but what about for normal patterns? i'm trying to make pattern number 82974 on here and at first I was working from left to right, but then became unsure and got the strings messed up somehow. But either way, how do you know which way to read a normal pattern?

For a normal pattern it always goes left to right for every row.

If your reading row by row, it’s always left to right.

Section knotting is another thing entirely; in which case, you can knot either by the progression of the thread or the section of the pattern.

Masha Knots has a great tutorial on section knotting on Youtube. https://youtu.be/cwTBtpF0TcE
