Hey! 😊 Do you guys know what other types of string I can use? Can I use crochet thread if yes what size? Where do I get it? Is it cheaper than embroidery floss? Is there color changing/gradient/multicolor crochet thread? Please help me figure this out. Thanks! |

I only really use embroidery floss, however if you use a thin crochet thread it works. I usually bring a piece of scrap thread that is the right thinness for bracelets and then compare to the string at the craft store

Sometimes it is cheaper to get thin crochet thread as base strings and not have a bunch of skeins, it’s up to you though

If you go to Walmart in the craft section there is a thread type called friendship thread craft cord. Or you can use loops and threads craft cord. You can also use yarn

I know that Aunt Lydia’s size 10 crotchet thread has metallic and multicolor thread. It’s also much cheaper than embroidery floss, but you have a lot less variety in colors because you would be buying a fewer colors with a lot of strings compared to buying a pack of embroidery with lots of colors, but fewer string. I’ve also never tried size 10 of aunt Lydia’s, but I have tried size 3 as base strings and it works pretty well. One more thing is that if you do use crotchet thread, I wouldn’t recommend mixing it with embroidery floss or other types of thread in a bracelet because it would produce uneven knots. The most similar size to embroidery floss is size 5

I’ve also used Lion Brand Yarn Summer Nights, which is superfine sparkly/multicolor yarn and it’s pretty much the same size as regular embroidery floss. It comes in a huge bundle and it’s not super expensive.

Also sorry to keep commenting, but you can get the crotchet thread from Michaels or Amazon

You could use yarn, its a good alternative! I used it a lot before i discovered embroidery thread and it works pretty well, but i prefer embroidery floss for the following reasons1. When you pull on yarn, it rubs on your fingers and kind of burns them i think because of the friction 2. Embroidery floss gives a smoother finish and is easier to work with 3. There are little fuzzies on yarn that bother me But, thin yarn is a great alternative, it works almost as well as floss for me! You can also use craft cord. |

What I do is I wind my thread in bobbins and color code my threads into a gradient in a bin I really hope this helps 🙂
