- practice- the flat alpha technique - not knotting too tightly or pulling the loose leading strings too tightly I'm sure several YouTubers have videos on alpha tips and tricks MashaKnots: https://youtu.be/12pByQvfzeY Alex's Innovations: https://youtu.be/ff7rwAP9jvI Megan Morris: https://youtu.be/MLw6N2T_NK8 |

1) Practice and experience, I started a alpha for the first time and after a little I realized that string count was wrong and it also looked like 🤮 so I didn't finish it, I dunno where it is now...2) watch videos, watch note tutorials...they give you basic knowledge and ideas 3) start with a pattern you wanted to do for a long time,by doing so you will want to finish it and will be eager to see the final looks 4) scroll through the pictures posted by others, it gives you motivation Hope this helps✨ |

be deliberate with your knots. sometimes who tend to rush to finish something. i find (especially with alphas w lots of color switches/common color switches) that double counting how many knots i need to do, straightening my rows after ever row, trying techniques like the flat alpha/straight edges, making sure my knot is how it’s supposed to be before moving on, and such really helps me out. again, it all take time and practice too.

one thing that can really help is using the straight edges technique (Masha knots has a tutorial on YouTube and she also has a video on how to keep your bracelets flat)

I would love to answer, but I am self taught, so my knotting techniques are a bit odd

I think what makes alphas look good are having the straight edges and that the knot tension is even throughout so that it dissent shrink or grow as you keep making the pattern. My advice is to use the straight edges technique, pay attention to your knot tension, take your time with the pattern, and to try and keep your workspace neat. (like make an effort to keep the base strings that are not in use up so that you work with only what you need and keep your threads organize so you don't accidentally tangle them all up 😂) you got thisssssss just keep practicing |

I like to research, so before attempting I watched a lot of tutorials. Masha Knots helped me the most. Don't be afraid to mess up on your first one! It'll take a few before it gets better. Enjoy the learning process, and understand every single bracelet maker has been in your position at some point. You got this!

The first alpha you make should be with 2 colors so you can get used to the color switches. I also recommend making 2-toned alphas:they are much easier because there are no color switches. Here is a tutorial for them: https://youtu.be/dGdNoeyilaU

If you try to keep the knot consistency the same it really does help, also using the straight edge technique and the flat alpha technique really helps!! When you're going across, make sure that when you reach both ends that you pull it tight enough so that you actually get a straight edge, just because you do fb/bf knots on it doesn't mean it'll actually gonna be straight. That's all I pay attention to, and the fact that my string is tucked nicely!! with those two in mind everything has looked amazing Its really just figuring out what knot consistency you like!! also, make sure you're using the same kind of thread from the same producer. You can find a lot of embroidery floss, but I noticed that the person I bought embroidery floss from made thicker string than DMC, so mixing the two types and brands caused it to be rigid and funky. Just figure out what works for you and go with the flow!! Start with small and easy patterns and work your way up, I've made 7 alphas in my lifetime and I can tell you from the time in between my first alpha and my fourth I made a lot of progress because i tested out different consistencies and perfected my technique! |

A really short answer I have for you is just practice! First try a smaller and simpler pattern to practice your technique, then try patterns that are harder and harder so that you can keep practicing while challenging yourself! 😄

i personally do a backward forward knot (and reversed on the other side😅) and my edges look super straight, i think that is what the straight edge technique is 😅
