Hi, I’ve been using the flat alpha technique for a while now but whenever I do it, it’s never flat... I always have big bumps 🙁 what am I doing wrong?

There are several possible causes, but a big one is pulling the new leading string too tightly when you bring it across the back, which will force the bracelet to sort of bunch up

the tightness or looseness of the knots will make it bubble up in certain places. I had that problem and i just had to make sure all my knots were the same tightness

Could it be that the alpha is just consistently bumpy? It felt the way with me because of all the color switch but it was still flat

If you use difference size leading strings that might be an issue as well

Whenever I make a pattern with a lot of colors/color switches, this can sometimes be an issue. A tip though could be to cut all the strings that are tugging on to each other on the back of your alpha once you’ve finished and you can secure it with glue if you’d like. Then, press down on your alpha, and it should get flatter

my first alpha had a similar problem- it was super bumpy- and it was mostly because my knots were uneven. you want to make each knot about the same size. there are two parts of the knot- the first part which determines how tight it’ll be, and the second part which basically secures it in place. you might also have issues with the bracelet folding because of leading strings in the back, like was said above ^^

Make sure to keep your knots loose. That way, it will make it more even, and the color switching should be a little flatter. Also, after I make my knot, and put the string through the first half of the knot, I tug on it before I put it behind the bracelet if that makes sense. I just make sure, as I am going along, that everything is even and does not get bunched up too easily. Also, keeping the rows straight can help. Using a ruler is also a great tool to keep your rows straight. 🙂 I hope this helps!

@Belle0812 this has happened to me and just recently has it gone flat. My best suggesting is making your knots looser but not to loose and just keep practicing until you get to where you like your alphas
