Hi, can someone help me please concerning the string numbers on patterns. On the pattern it says string number but when i count on the pattern theres always one string less e.g. Pattern number #21108 says 18 strings but when i count the pattern its only 17 strings. Which number do I use?

For alpha patterns? 17 is the number of base strings-the number of knots across one row of the pattern. It says "18 strings" because you use one additional string to tie the knots. In normal patterns the strings tie onto each other, but in alpha one string ties across all the others. Hope that helps!
