I just got painters tape (It doesn’t leave marks when it’s removed) and I’m trying to make a keychain and I put down about 5-10 layers of tape and it won’t stick! When I pull on my base strings to tie knots the strings just come out from underneath the tape. Why is this happening? Please help! That was a lot of writing

Maybe fold a piece of tape so all sides will be sticky, put the strings down, then put a piece on top? That works if the tape isn’t that strong

@Smooshy Maybe try using the tape and putting it through the keychain and then put more tape on the top of it. I am also making my first keychain so I usually put 2-3 pieces of tape through to ring. It last’s me about 4/6 rows depending on how tight I pull. Hope this helps.😁

maybe try a clipboard or put a book or something heavy on top of the tape so the strings cannot slide out

I used painters tape earlier bc I couldn’t find my good one and what I did was get a extra piece of string and do a larkshead knot onto the top of the keychain and taped that string down to hold the keychain 🙂

Hello there!!!
The reason why it doesn't leave marks when used is because its meant for painting. If you had tape residue on your project that wont look good, so it specializes in sealing the area from the paint. If you have something underneath it and you're constantly tugging, its gonna slip because it doesn't have the same grip. There's no real way for it to work, the way the tape is designed it's not meant for taping down string.

If you like the fact it doesn't leave any residue, then tape down your bracelet first with the painters tape, then put normal tape on top of it. If you line it up properly, then you still wont have anything on the bracelet but you can still secure it!!

I actually used actual Duct Tape to hold them down and even then it wouldn't stick lol, so now I tape it to my clipboard sometimes and then clip it in after...usually stays pretty still

Oops I wasn't done writing, I also was gonna say maybe put a layer of painters tape down first so you do not get tape residue on your project and then put some duct tape over it...

Painter's tape won't work for bracelets. I would recommend using a safety pin to pin it to something while you work on it or you could use a clipboard. Waterbottles also work well 🙂

If you're insistent on using tape that won't leave marks, try using Washi tape. Personally the only thing for me that works is a clipboard, but I have seen a lot of people use Washi tape to secure their bracelets.

I put one piece of tape on the strings I fold the strings down and tape them then fold them back up and tape them one more time!🤓

Layering it doesn’t help. Instead I’d recommend placing tape in different places. Also a considerable option is a clipboard.

@Waddles666 I recommend checking out the YouTube channel “Masha Knots” she has a lot of beginner videos and covers the basics in her beginner knots video. There are also some videos here on braceletbook if you check out the videos tab. Some easy patterns that I recommend are #1 , #2 , #117
