i really want to make an alpha pattern but:1) i have no idea how long to make the base strings 2) i fell bad just cutting string when you dont really see it... could i try to make a short key chain with scrap thread for the base strings? |

1) The base strings need to be the length of the bracelet + the ties. If you have ever made an alpha you can use that to calculate how long a certain amount of rows would be.2) For a small keychain you can definitely use scrap thread as the base strings as long as it is long enough. I personally usually use crochet thread as the base strings because it's not that expensive, you can buy it in big amounts and it lasts you for a long time. |

I would make a small keychain. That way you can see how big the knots are. Then what you can do is use that as a reference point at to how many knots are how long. That way you can use a better estimate. Also, if you look at pictures, you can try to gauge how long the base strings based on how big it is in someones hand or something. I hope that helps!

U can also make rag rug keychains with any string that’s too short for base strings🙂

For me I make them a little longer than the bracelets or keychain +room for the ties! I always end up not using as much as I plan but at least I have enough 😂
