hey everyone! i’ve been making bracelets for a while but stopped and now i’m picking it up again. i wanna make an alpha and i remember that for the foundation strings i don’t really cut the same as how much i would cut for normal ones. i don’t wanna make it too short so does anyone have any tips on how much i should cut a string for the foundation aka base strings (right)? thanks y’all <3

Cut your base strings the length that you want your bracelet to be plus the ties. I like to use my other bracelets to measure how long to make my base strings. For example if I want to make an 80 row alpha and I’ve made a 40 row alpha in the past, I know to cut my strings double the length of the 40 row one and to cut a good amount extra for the ties.

Not cut a good amount extra, but add a good amount extra. Sorry, I hope that wasn’t confusing. Basically cut tune base strings a little longer just in case

most people in the bracelet community call them base strings so that might be an easier term to use so other people know what you mean. to answer your question, it depends on what pattern you're doing and how many rows it is. the base strings don't get much shorter as you make the bracelet. it also depends how you start and end the pattern. so if you're doing a stitched loop, ties, etc. if you could maybe let me know what pattern you're making and how you want to start and end it then i could probably give you an exact measurement.

ok maybe make the strings like a couple feet long and fold them in half before you cut to see how long that will be. hopefully this helps
