Alpha Edges

I don’t know how to describe it but I’ll do the best I can. When I’m making my alphas and using the straight edges technique, I’ll do a color switch on the last knot right on the edge of the bracelet and you can see a little bit of the previous leading string poking out through the background color. If I pull the string tight enough so you can’t see it, the bracelet edges turn all weird and aren’t straight. There’s like gaps and it’s not a straight line. I don’t know if that makes any sense but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and I need to know if there’s a way to fix this. Help meeee 😂

Do you use the flat alpha technique? (That means if you switch colours do you first make a knot with the new colour and then take the old one cross it and then make the second half) if you do this then make sure that you don't do that on the last knot but there you have to do a normal colour switch in witch you take the old colour push it right to the back and then take the new one and make a whole knot. If this is unsure for you Masha Knots has a video on this technique and a little farther in she explains how to do colour switches at the edge

You are most likely forgetting the second bf or fb knot. When doing the straight edges technique in an alpha you replace both the last and the first knot in a row with bf knots on the left and fb knots on the right. That means you do two bf or fb knots right after each other, the first knot is the last knot of the previous row and the second knot is the first knot of the next row. I'm super bad at explaining but I've explained the same thing very recently here: https://www.braceletbook.com/forum/3_bracelet-tying/15505_backward-forward-knot/#172673 You're definitely not the only one who is confused: https://www.braceletbook.com/forum/7_community/15524_did-anyone-else-not-know-this-for-a-while-or-am-i-the-only-one/#172950 If you need a visualisation you can check out my tutorial: https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/101_the-straight-edges-technique/ |

I think it is most likely a combination of forgetting the second knot at the edge and doing the flat alpha technique when doing colour switches right at the edge.

I’ve been using the flat alpha technique, I’ll have to take a look at mashas alpha video again and see what I’m doing wrong. This definitely helped though bc im still relatively knew to making alphas 🙂

Is it more that the edge gets pulled to the back? In that case you might be pulling the loosing leading strings too tight.Or is it that the edge doesn't have the closed structure that it should have? In which case you are probably forgetting the second knot. For the rest I agree with what @Conrnelia has said but to me it doesn't sound like it's the only issue |

The edges get pulled back into the bracelet if I try and hide the string, the edges were completely straight on the last bracelet that I made (the photos on my page) but I didn’t have the color switch right on the edge of the bracelet.

You should really watch the video again and to not knot two hard when you are doing the edge knot. I think you do the wrong colour change at the edge that way they are showing and then if.you want to fix it they get pulled into the back. And if there are gaps in between some of your knots watck if you have the same tightness to every knot or use completely different sized string. Your strings should be the same thickness
