@natalie_m1 I don't think the straight edges technique works for normal patterns... I think it's only for alphas.Try doing it without the straight edges technique and just keep your knots even. I hope this helps! --Susu |

@SusuKnots you can use the straight edges technique for both normals and alphas. They just work a little different but the concept is the same. You do bf knots on the left and fb knots on the right. If you want you can check out my written tutorial in which I explain both https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/101_the-straight-edges-technique/ |

To get normal patterns straight my biggest advice would be to try to knot as consistently as possible and not pull the bracelet to either side while knotting. If you are struggling with a certain knot type I recommend practicing that knot type. For the start I recommend to either make a shaped start or start in a straight line. I'd advice against making a big knot with all strings and then starting in a straight line because then the strings get crammed together and the start is very wonky. |

Oh, and like I said in my written tutorial the straight edges technique is not your magical solution that makes all your bracelets look amazing. You could do perfect straight edges and the bracelet could still be uneven.

And also remember straight edges doesn’t mean parallel. Even if you do the straight edges techniques your bracelet may be thicker or thinner in certain places. Also if your backward forward and forward backward knots on the edges are inconsistent in tightness then it may still have bunny edges. Hope this helped, I also had issues with keeping my bracelets straight using the technique.

Also generally if you tie your knots looser your edges will come out less wonky.
