Hi folks - is it legal to sell a bracelet made from a pattern on bracelet book if you didn’t make the pattern? I can’t seem to find any info on the site that answers the question. Thanks!

Hi! A lot of popular creators sells bracelets which are made from other creators on this app. I would suggest asking the original creator first as it is copyright. Not sure if the popular creators do contact the creator but you should always get permission for ethical and legal reasons

I heard that it is ok, and that it is really only bad if you take the pattern and claim it as your own. And you basically wouldn’t be able to use a pattern and make a bracelet out of it if you couldn’t sell bracelets made out of patterns. If someone posts a pattern to the site they should tell people that they don’t want bracelets with their patterns used in Etsy shops or stuff, I think you should be grateful instead of mad if they make a bracelet with their pattern and sell it especially if it’s a big bracelet Youtuber like Masha knots!

It’s ok if you don’t claim the pattern as your own. Most people don’t mind if somebody created the pattern and your selling a keychain/bracelet. You could also link the pattern in the description of the listing

well when you make a pattern you are allowing others to use it to create a bracelet however it is wrong if you decide to take that pattern and claim it as yours and use it somewhere else without the creators permission

I think you should ask the creator and mention that the pattern isn't yours but is made by _____.

I’ll be opening an Etsy shop in June and I plan on buying thank you for your order cards and on the back I’ll write “this keychain/bracelet was made following pattern #********* from BraceletBook.com

I also will pm all of the creators and ask if I can make and sell it and credit the pattern number.

You are making a product using a pattern which was published and not stealing the pattern claiming its yours therefore selling a bracelet should be no problem; many people do. But for example you shouldn't sell any among us related bracelets as inner-sloth said so nor should you ever say that you made a pattern when you didn't. If you do sell bracelets I think its a good idea to mention the pattern number that you use and if people ask for the pattern number you should provide it. Also any pattern you publish is made public so others can use it to make stuff so selling a product you made whether or not you followed instructions for it isn't illegal as long as you aren't selling something which you didn't create (like the pattern itself) or a company has stated not to sell fan merch. (by the way this is my belief I could be wrong but if a person doesn't want a product of their pattern being sold why publish the pattern in the first place?). I realize I sound stupid I know

@2006_Mandy I 100% agree. Why make a pattern and publish it if you don’t want others to make it??

yeah and most people will want to sell or give it away anyways. I've seen products of my patterns being sold but really I have no right to tell people they cannot sell them just because they used a pattern of mine.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Mailing a bracelet vs selling a bracelet are two totally different things. Obvy, people are creating patterns for other people to “make” them. I agree that if you want to sell, asking the person who originally created the pattern is the way to go. I am not selling anything, but eventually might like to. Cheers everyone! 👍🏼😻

@2006_Mandy wait so I couldn’t sell an among us bracelet? Does that mean I can’t ever sell a bracelet of a pattern that’s from any game or shows? 😮

@Elise64 unfortunately innersloth (the company that made among us) said on twitter not to sell any fan merch using their designs. The crew mate is their design and everything else. They are coming out with some fan merch policy so that if you sell fan merch they make money off of it. It is always best to see if a company has a fan merch policy or says no selling fan merch. Fan merch is anything you sell using their logo or designs. Its sad to say but people might try and get you in trouble for copyright infringement and such when you sell products like that. However I know many people do sell disney and such products; so as long as the company has not said you cannot it should be ok.

@Elise64 so my answer to your question would be that you can still sell these things as long as there is no policy or statement against it and if you discover there is that you respond to it.

i’m pretty sure it is! think of it like a recipe from a published cookbook, they can’t fault you for selling the food you made using their recipe right?
