instead of knotting normal patterns row by row you can knot in segments meaning make knots diagonally so that you are knotting with the same colour as much as possible before switching colours. A candy stripe or chevron is commonly segment knotted as you knot the rows diagonally and not row by row.

i kinda get it but what if the pattern isn't diagonal? And also like if if the pattern is able to be segment knotted then can you not segment knot it? (is it clear that i still dont know what segment knotting is?) Sorry, you dont have to keep trying. This is still really confusing

Segment knotting is for example when you knot the chevron #2 in v-shapes or the candystripe #1 in diagonal lines. If you've ever done any of those patterns you have most likely already segment knotted. Other patterns can be segment knotted as well but are mostly a little more complex to segment knot.Any normal pattern no matter if you can or can't segment knot it can also be knotted row-by-row. What you do is mainly preference. Segment knotting is usually a little faster than knotting row by row. Knotting row-by-row is less confusing. If a pattern has mostly fb and bf knots it's more comfortable to knot in rows. Here are some videos on segment knotting https://youtu.be/cwTBtpF0TcE https://youtu.be/cNMyp3VGdzQ If you don't mind would you tell me which pattern it is people are talking about? |

@halokiwi it is in most normal pattern comment sections, whenever i go into a popular pattern's comment section, i always see "any tips on segment knotting this????" i really think there should be more segment knotting tutorials for separate patterns ❤️

@sadnymph whenever I see someone asking I try to help them figure out if and how a pattern can be segment knotted. There are also lots of videos on YouTube for different patterns. Most video tutorials are on how to segment knot a pattern. Segment knotting seems intimidating in the beginning but once you get the hang of it you can easily apply it to most patterns 😄 Producing videos or tutorials is time consuming and there are so many patterns. I recommend learning how to determine how to segment knot any pattern. It's less complicated than it seems. For this I really recommend MashaKnots' video on segment knotting. You could also read one of the tutorials in the tutorial section https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/97_how-to-segment-knot/ https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/61_knotting-in-sections/ If you tell me the pattern number of the pattern you want to do I can try to help you figure out how to segment knot it. You can also always knot row by row 😄 |

Segment knotting is quicker but if you don’t know how to do it it is not necessary I also didn’t do it at first and I learned it just like a month ago but I didn’t really have a problem with row by row

Wait, i KINDA get it now. So if a pattern has like a diagonal thing you could knot diagonal instead of knotting in rows?? But if that is correct then what about the other rows and colours and knots?

ok so its kind of hard to explain but i will try my best. segment knotting is basically just a faster way to knot. there are tutorials on youtube on how to segment knot. when you are doing a chevron you are doing segment knotting. same with candy stripe and several other basic patterns like braided stitch, aztec chevron, etc. it is not necessary to do on normal patterns if you can read them normally. i usually only do it if i am following a tutorial because i feel like its two much work for me to figure all of the segment knotting stuff out.
