usually depends on the width and length of the bracelet. but to be safe i usually use a wingspan. so from finger tips to finger tips with your arms out stretched 🙂

If it’s a normal I usually do my wingspan (which is 6feet) but if it’s an alpha I cut a bit longer than what I think the outcome will be

It depends on the length of your bracelet. If you want it to be a keychain, you really don't need more than 14 inches folded over (again, depending on how long/short the pattern is) and for bracelets, I cut each string about the length of my wingspan, if not a few inches more... I've had a couple instances before where I've run out of string; I'd rather have extra string (which could be used in rag rugs, etc) than not enough : ) hope this helps!

It also depends on what type of bracelet you are making! Alpha's require shorter strings than normal patterns. For normal patterns, I do a wingspan with a little extra for my ties! For an alpha, The base strings do not to be that long. For a pattern that is 90-95 rows, I usually wrap the string around my wrist and usually eyeball 10 more inches of string to make ties and my loops. For keychains, I also just eyeball it based on how many rows the pattern is! As for the leading string, it just depends on how many knots you have to make with the color. Remember, you can always add string when making an alpha

The lenght of the string you have to use is very individual. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_K2iKeoq-A&t=2s in this video there is a way described of how you could calclulate the length of your string and makes that yo don't have a lot of waste or extra string
