To get started you can also use string you'd use for knitting or crocheting, but usually embroidery thread is recommended. Basically any string could be used, but I would recommend not using too thick string.

I don't know where you are from so it's really difficult to tell. In general craft stores should do especially ones where you can get yarn. I usually get mine from Tedi which is like a German dollarstore I think. They have lots of cheap craft suplies.

a very cheap price! It can be found at almost any craft store! (Michaels, Joann, Walmart, and Amazon)
