Hello everyone! I’m new here on BraceletBook and I have a few questions about getting started. I’m fairly new at making bracelets. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to start the bracelet rather than just making a simple loop. Also I’m struggling with holes in my bracelets. Not sure how tight I need to do my knots. Any help will be appreciated!! Thanks 🙂

Hi! If you are noticing gaps, or that your bracelets are pretty flimsy, that usually is a hint that your knots should be tighter. I like to make tight knots, but your knot tension is really just a personal preference. As for different ways to start a bracelet, you can do triangle ends with twisted/braided ties, or a teardrop loop. Those are the main techniques I use, if you want to learn more about them just message me or watch some tutorials on youtube (i would recommend Mashaknots). Hope this helps!

Start by learning how to read patterns and make the basics of friendship bracelets (candystripe, Chinese staircase, chevron and practice twisted ties) then once your knots are good try more advanced versions like (Aztec, arrowhead, chainlink chevron, flip flop, polkadot chevron, etc) and then alphas should be even easier. Hold your first halves of your knots tightly while making the second half otherwise they do lossen up when making the second half which can cause gaps.

@elmo33 Here's a video by Alex's Innovations about starting and ending bracelets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6-KQDLeKik&t=3584s. If there are gaps in your bracelets, try to tye your knots more tightly. In my opinion, your knots should be tight but not too tight as to not injure your fingers.

Hi! Welcome! You should try triangle ends! They are pretty easy and fun... Masha Knots has more videos on starts and ends. Try pulling the knots tighter but don’t pull from the string your tieing onto- it will come through... pull pretty hard but not over hard where your string breaks 😂

If your bracelets have holes that’s usually an indication that your knots are too loose. for the loop, masha knots has tutorials on loops on her channel you can see if there is something there you wanna do

Hi! First of all: welcome at BB! There are much video’s on youtube about knotting. Masha knots can explain really good and Alexs innovations is also a good channel to watch if you are a beginner. Maybe you are knotting too tight or too loose. Try to knot more even and the holes will disappear. And remember, practice makes perfect. I had the same problem. What I do to avoid holes is pushing the knots up a bit with a ruler. Good luck and happy knotting!
