I've seen some people use toothpicks for smaller patterns and dowels or skewers for big ones.

I've made a small wall-hanging on a wooden popsicle stick so that's definitely also an option.

Wooden dowels. I use kabob sticks from my local Walmart/Target/Publix.Look up wooden dowels on Amazon. There's a pack of 25 for $6. |

You can also use skewers like for bar acid and the cut them. That’s what I use and it’s by far the best thing I’ve tried out!!!

@Nobody I use a kitchen knife to make a little groove in it which is kinda not safe so just be careful and then just use kitchen shears or any nice scissors that aren't for sewing. 😉
