Hi! I was just wondering if the base string in alphas need to be the same thickness as your knotting string? Does it make a difference if they are? Thank you!

@PotatoPeel my base strings are just a bit thinner than my leading string. I use the dmc petra size 5 crotchet thread and my alphas turn out pretty nicely. hope this helped!

@kman sorry im a little late seeing this, but thank you! Thats exactly what i do, my base strings are thinner. I just wanted to make sure it doesnt affect the whole bracelet. Thank you, and have a nice day/night! |

No they don't have to. I use Aunt Lydias crochet thread as my base strings, which is a bit thicker. And I use regular embroidery floss for my knotting string.

oops meant: It doesn't matter if they aren't the same thickness or size.

No, you probably just shouldn’t have base strings that are different sizes, like if you had aunt lydias crochet thread size three but also have dmc for base strings it would turn out kinda wonky

Turns out no. One of my base strings snapped verticall in half and so it didn't change the width.
