Hey everyone, this is my first question on this website. I know how to do normal alpha patterns but the colored ones really confuse me like the diamonds or zigzag patterns I get how to do the forward knot and etc. But like do I go right to left or left to right I'm just unsure and end up with a mess at the end .

@cor_aweThere are two pattern types: normals and alphas. I think you might potentially mean alphas which are patterns like #19454. Alpha patterns are knotted different than normals. You knot them row by row. There are two different types of strings in alphas: base strings (the strings you knot onto) and leading strings (the strings you knot with). To make a knot of a different colour you switch to a different leading string. A good intro to alpha patterns is MashaKnots' video on the flat alpha technique https://youtu.be/_YVFAX9sacw Is this what you mean or are you looking for something else? If your looking for something else please provide a pattern number as an example in your reply and also @ me so I see your reply 😄 |

@saggarwal2 the pattern you mentioned uses the straight edges technique. The string at the edge only gets knotted onto (bf knots on the left and fb knots on the right). If you want to know more about the straight edges technique I recommend watching MashaKnots' video on it: https://youtu.be/YkN7VX0gVfQ You can also check out my written tutorial https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/101_the-straight-edges-technique/ If you want to you can leave the string at the edge out. The straight edges technique is mainly for aesthetic purposes. The edge just looks different and less bumpy. but I don't think that would be a big issue in this pattern. |

@Anna_sophFor normal patterns I recommend MashaKnots' video "NORMAL PATTERNS & SEGMENT KNOTTING TUTORIAL - FOR BEGINNERS" https://youtu.be/cwTBtpF0TcE For alpha patterns I recommend MashaKnots' video "FLAT ALPHA BRACELETS - BEGINNER TUTORIAL" https://youtu.be/_YVFAX9sacw |

@halokiwi so I don't have to add those strings? and if I do will it be shown in the pattern?

@saggarwal2 the pattern would be slightly smaller and there would be one knot less of the stripes going in from the outside but otherwise the pattern stays the same.

@saggarwal2 that is if you remove the strings. If you add the strings it would look like in the preview 😄 the difference is barely noticable.

@zilinsel20 to report a pattern you message a moderator such as myself

@luna_cute one is not really more difficult than the other, they are just different. I'd say reading an alpha pattern might be a little easier but I don't think the actual knotting makes much of a difference in regards of difficulty.
