Hii! Im working on a keychain and there is a bunch of strings crossing the back because of the color switches. I was wondering if anything bad would happen if I tried to cut those strings to make the keychain less thick. If anyone has tried this before, can you tell me how it went for you?

@bestbiI recommend watching MashaKnots' video on the flat alpha technique to learn how to do a colour switch. The steps are - fold the old leading string up in front - make the first half of the next knot with your new leading string - fold the old leading string over the base string you just knotted on but beneath the new leading string and then under the rest of the base strings - make the second half of the knot with the new leading string. The old leading string is now sandwiched between the new leading string and the base string. This helps to make it less bumpy and more connected. |

i feel self-conscious about my bracelet, it looks fine, but i worry that i’m not tightening my knots tight enough. when i put it up to the light, there are these tiny holes that i can see, even though my knots look together, is there anyway i can stop this? or prevent this?

Hello all:When looking at a pattern, how do you know whether to follow it row-by-row or use segment knotting? |

@kyyyyyyyyy no need to worry 😄 this is completely normal. No matter how tight or loose you knot you will see light shining through holes when you hold a bracelet against the light.

@dukesu in general you can knot any normal pattern row-by-row. Segment-knotting is comfortable when a pattern doesn't have too many fb and bf knots. For most normal pattern it's simply preference what you do.Alphas on the other hand can only be knotted in rows. |

@ellap in an alpha you have two knot types: forward knot (arrow to the right) and backward knot (arrow to the left). To make a forward knot (f knot) you take the leading string (the string you make knots with) and lay it over the base string (the string you make a knot on) in the shape of a 4. Then you move the leading string through the hole of the 4 from behind and pull it tight. This was the first half of the knot. Every knot in a friendship bracelet consists of two halves. To do the second half you just repeat the first step. Backward knot (b knot) is the same, but mirrored. So instead of a 4 you have a backwards 4. Here's a video on how to make alphas https://youtu.be/_YVFAX9sacw Here's a video on the knot types https://youtu.be/bClGNDcndMg The video talks about normal patterns I think but the knots are the same. |
