hey, i'm a beginner at knot bracelets and my knots a) don't go in straight lines and b) arent the color they're supposed to be. what i mean by b is that my base strings are basically flipping around and being the knot instead of the string that should be the knot? if that makes any sense. i always do the knots correctly, i don't mix up the strings at all. the knots don't always use the base strings color, but i don't know what i do differently then.

is there a way to fix both problems or are this just common for starting out? feel free to get me to clarify something, km not the greatest with words.

I think I know what you mean. It's just pulling the knot too tight, happens to me all the time lol

You are pulling too tight and so by pulling the leading string tightly it’s going doing and pushing the base string up which results in the base string making the knot. It’s hard to explain but I’ve done it in a few of my normal bracelets so if you make your knots looser it should help

you’re probably pulling knots too tight. try to loosen them a little and maybe try to use the straight edge and flat alpha technique. masha knots has a great tutorial on her youtube channel. it is called flat alpha tutorials. also try to push the rows and edges of the bracelet up with a ruler to straighten out the knots. make sure you take it down as you go so that the bracelet isn’t moving and causing you to make more mistakes. hope this helped!

Try making your first knot a tighter and your second knot a little looser. Making knots super tight can push the knots above them up and make the lines uneven. I would recommend watching some videos by Kinsey B, Masha Knots, and others. Another tip would be to just practice! Try to do some candy stripe and chevrons before attempting to do the more difficult bracelet patterns. These really helped me when I was first learning with knot size and tightness. Plus, they are super easy!

Another thing that could prevent the colours from flipping is holding the string you tie Onto down towards you as ou tie and pull the other one up and away from you as you tighten the knots. I used to pull one string towards the left and the other towards the right at the same time and this flipped my knots a lot. I hope I explained this well and that it's helpful
