Try using the straight alpha technique (masha knots has a video on this) and just keep practicing it gets better with time.

Use the same type of thread for the base strings. Because some of the knots will be bigger and it won't look as good

Try to find a pattern with 10-14 strings and only two colors, this will help you get the basic technique without having to worry about color switching and stuff like that!

I would recommend starting off with some easier patterns to help you get the hang of making alphas. Ones that only have a few colors and not many strings. As you progress, you can start to add more strings and colors. Masha Knots has some really good tips on her YouTube channel. Another tip would be to use the straight edge technique. Again, Masha Knots has a YouTube video on this, but in short, its when you would do a forward-backward or backward-forward knot instead of just doing a forward/backward knot. Curling, in my experience, typically only happens when I have the knots become uneven. To help with this, I would, again, recommend starting off on some simpler alphas and work your way to the more advanced patterns. Try to practice with some chevrons or candy stripe bracelets to. Really, alphas just take a lot of practice. I hope this helps!

What really helped me with improving my alpha bracelets is making my knots looser. That makes alpha bracelets soooooo much neater and straighter. Also try to make all of the knots with even tension so all knots will be the same size.

The most important thing is to practice, but try different techniques and decide which one is your favourite.

Start slowly. First make simple bracelets that don't have many strings and max 2 or 3 colors. When you're confident with that add more strings, more colors and other techniques. The simplest would be straight edges technique where you make backward forward or forward backward knots on the edges. Make sure you do two knots on the edge string. The first bf/fb knot is the last knot of one row and than you have to do another bf/fb knot on the same string to start the next row. I've seen many people do just one knot and wonder why the technique doesn't work for them. When you master that you could try the flat alpha technique. This technique makes color switches look nicer. You basically trap previously used string between two halves of the knot. It's kinda hard to explain, Masha knots has some good tutorials about that. Make sure you don't pull on the string too strong, that causes warping of the edges. Next you could try reverse alpha technique. It makes cleaner bracelets because you don't see individual knots. Some people prefer that, other like more pixelated look you get the usual way. As for more general tips: ❤️ use strings that are the same thickness. If you have to use one string that is thicker try making the knots a bit tighter and others with thinner strings a bit looser. It should even itself out. ❤️ adjust each row with your fingernail or ruler after you make it. If you notice the bracelet starts getting thinner gently pull it apart and make next rows a bit looser ❤️ don't make your knots too tight ❤️ be careful with color changes. If the knot doesn't look right make it again. It's better to check as you go than to undo the whole row. ❤️ if you notice you made a mistake don't be afraid to undo some knots to fix it ❤️ take your time, you're not in a rush. Alphas take time. I usually need a few days to make a double sided keychain. When you feel your concentration dropping take a break or continue next day |

Don't start with complicated patterns at first. My first alpha was 19 base strings and 3 colors ( which is not something I would recommend for a beginner, but I didn't know that at the time) and it didn't turn out very good, with wonky knots and warped and messy edges. I am trying the straight edges and flat alpha technique on my current alpha and it turned out a whole lot better than my first alpha. I think the reason I improved this much is that I understood how to do it, paid attention to detail, fixed small mistakes ( which actually made a BIG difference) and of course, practice. Practice makes improvement! Good luck 😉

So PRACTICEEEEuse the same type of thread so that the keychain or bracelet is even I would use the straight edges technique if you don't want the waves on the side I would also practice ur knot tension If u could maybe mark up or print out the pattern so you won't get lost that's a good way of making sure everything is good Hoped this helped and have fun 😊 |

Use Mod Podge at the back to secure the ends of the strings. Glue can be flaky, clear nail polish can be sharp, and if you just cut them they could come out the other side. Mod Podge is a sealer for crafts and stuff, any similar product should work too. Also watching Masha Knots videos really helped me. She goes slow and explains things well. Also just practice! The more you do, the better your bracelets will turn out. Good luck and happy knotting! 🙂

Use the straight edges technique and the flat alpha technique. Masha knots has a tutorial on both!
