So...
When I start a bracelet, i'm super excited to do it, I love the pattern but after a few rows, most of the time i gotta go somewhere ( i mostly start my bracelet late, before going to sleep so most of the time, after a few rows, i gotta go to sleep) and then, I just "forget/ about my bracelet and like 2 days later, i do a few more rows.
I'm pretty sure i wont touch them because i am scared of messing them up... Also, i have ADHD, ( an attention trouble) and so most of the time, i stay 20 min. on my bracelet and then get bored...
Would you have tricks that could help me??

I usually listen to podcasts while knotting my bracelets. I almost never do a lot of rows in one sitting without doing something else at the same time. It might also be a good idea to put your bracelet on a clipboard and knot outside.

As someone that also have problems with attention (for example I play video games, watch series and read forums at the same time to be able to focus on one), I've found these things helps me while making bracelets;
- watching something at the same time, I prefer comedy shows or youtube clips that I don't need to focus on but that still adds something else to the situation. Podcast/music never works for me since I need the business of visual distraction.
- frequent pauses, I never knot for more then 30 minutes without a short break to go get something to drink, scroll through my phone or anything else.
- have several bracelets started at the same time. If I lose focus on the bracelet I am making and can't get back into it I swap to another one. I always have several tabs open on my browser for all the patterns I am currently working on so I can find them quickly (searching for them makes me lose focus again).
- have a go to pattern that you know you can easily knot from your memory, then you can take it and knot in another place where you get more stimulation - for ex. outside, around other people etc. (examples I use are #31525 and #39889)

I hope some of these can help you! 😊

You could have something turned on in the background (TV audiobook or music)

I'm never just knotting, I'm usually talking to someone over FaceTime, listening to an audiobook or watching Netflix/Disney plus. I would recommend having something playing in the background. Overall motivation? yea I go through phases where I'm knotting all the time or not at all. It's one of my hobbies that interest comes and goes for.

For me I find watching a video, being on FaceTime, or listening to music helps me focus,

Watching Netflix or a podcast helps me.

i listen to music or watch netflix. otherwise, i’d take a break from knotting for a bit so that you’ll miss it and then once you come back you’ll be super excited about it

I can totally relate. I start and then never finish. I have a box of bracelets that I will eventually finish. I would say listen to something or do it with a friend! It's super fun and keeps you motivated.

i would recommend trying to watch tv, youtube, movies, or listening to a podcast or your favorite music. i like to do this when i’m making bracelets because i get distracted very easily when making a bracelet. also maybe try setting bracelet goals for yourself. for example every night before you go to bed make a list of what bracelets you want to make and how many rows you want to get done. this will motivate you more to complete the bracelet because it makes you feel more productive. idk if this will work for everyone but it helps me a lot. also sorry this comment was like a mile long.

Just let yourself take a break from bracelets! I know that this sounds weird however, I have tried it and I figured out that once i take a long break from bracelets, I really truly want to make bracelets again! Hope this strategy works for you as well! Happy knotting! (hopefully)

I can also relate like literally I have a box specifically for unfinished bracelets. Sometimes I just get bored of it’s colors or the pattern or I just generally found another pattern and liked it more. So I can relate.

Hey! I’m also adhd so I can relate a lot to the whole 20-minutes-then-done thing. It’s so easy to get sucked into a new thing for HOURS when you’re new and learning, but losing that after the excitement wears off sucks. 😢 I’ve found some coping methods that can help keep me on task, I find I have to find adhd-specific advice for things like motivation and focus. What works for the rest of the population does not work so well for me. So, what has helped?

-ADHD brain wants lots of stimuli. So, I have an interesting podcast going in the background while I knot (Or do any task that is boring, really. I cannot do chores without podcast) it gives the thinking part of my brain something to chew on while the motion part of my brain focuses on the knots.

- Specific Music. Everyone is different with what music helps them I think, but I actually love classical for focusing. I dont listen to it any other time so it gets me in that headspace. Anything without lyrics works great for me though, and those alpha-wave-whatever youtube music playlists can be helpful if I just want to zone out or get into a calm mental state. I also use a lot of meditation music.

- Having multiple projects. I like to have one “hard” project and one easy project to work on at a time, so I can switch back and forth. Keeps it fresh. I usually do a normal and an alpha at the same time bc alphas are a bit harder for me since I’m still so new.

- And honestly, just accepting that I might only be able to focus for a bit at a time, and building in breaks. It means I need more breaks than others, and another task to check on, but it helps keep me modivated over longer periods. For example, I’ll work on a craft for 20 minutes, then lose focus. Once I feel my focus slipping I switch to another task, but something not as exciting. Like rotating laundry, replying to messages, playing a game, or just scrolling (But being careful NOT to fall into a scroll-hole) and then mindfully bringing myself back to the task after a small break. It is easier to refocus and get more done, and I will get more work done in those 20 minutes than I would have if I FORCED myself to sit for an hour when my brain says n o.

Also I tackle harder projects than my skill level allows 🤪 It keeps things Extra exciting and I have to be really INTO the end result if I’m going to finish something. Keeping modivated through boring stuff is near impossible and will stop me from completing a task entirely. So I gotta keep it exciting, even if it is a little trickier. It’s something I always do as a beginner, so like, I learn quick but that’s bc I make lots of mistakes real early 🙈 👍 It’s all part of the process!

I hope this helps! Sorry it got so long and out of hand 😂 Take what works and leave what doesn’t ❤️

i can totally relate! i have a lot of unfinished bracelets, and i’ve realized that they’re ones that i didn’t like, either because of the colors or it was too repetitive. in terms of the actual bracelet, i recommend only using colors you like, and only doing the type of bracelet you like (normal vs alphas). also, i’m a lot more motivated when it’s an alpha of something i like, such as an anime i’m into or a video game i like. in terms of outside motivation, i prefer to listen to something, like music or a podcast or watch tv while knotting. i find it really hard to knot without background noise, so i always sit somewhere with outside noise along with the music/podcast/show, idk i like it when someone is talking lol. hope this helps! 🍁🕸🌙

usually when I knot, I listen to music or do something else while knotting. Concentrating on knotting alone is usually pretty difficult since its repetitive
