Hi, I'm doing pattern #53172 and I don't know how long should I cut the base strings, I want to start/end the bracelet with braids, so I can tie them

I don’t think it would be that long, do however long you want the braid to be on each side times two, plus however long the bracelet will be, which is probably only 5 to six inches. You should just leave extra to be sure, it’s better to cut the strings too long than too short. And if you haven’t done an alpha before, I recommend doing an easier one first with less color switches and do the flat alpha technique, then do that one.

You can ask the person who made the bracelet and added a photo how long it was besides the braids

If you've ever made an alpha bracelet you can measure how long a certain amount of rows is and then calculate how long 61 rows are. If you have never made an alpha you can make some test rows. The basestrings need to be the length of the bracelet plus some extra for the ties.

I'd recommend doing about 2 feet and make sure that you leave some space on each side so you can do some nice twisted ties! 🙂

As long as you need it to go around your wrist, the ties, plus some extra just in case the the pattern turns out longer than you think it will be.

I like to make mine about an arms length and then fold them in half for keychains. If your base strings end up being longer than you needed you will know for future reference. If it's a bracelet go a little longer just to be safe.

For two ties I would cut my strings 10-12 inches plus however long the bracelet will be. So that would be 5-6 inches for each tie and then maybe another 5-6 inches for the bracelet itself.

long enough for your bracelet and ties if you are doing a bracelet, if you are making a keychain, you don't have ties but if you want to make it on a keyring make them double the length you want then do a larks head knot and you have two base strings out of one, like if you did a macrame loop. also if you are doing a keychain it depends on how long you want the hassle things on the bottom.hope this helps -vsco_love🌸🌻🌊 |

It depends on how long or wide your alpha is going to be. I don’t usually measure my string, I just judge by the pattern how long it will be 😂 hope this helped even though it probably won’t 😅 Happy Knotting!!!🧵 |
