There's a new tutorial by @AlyKnots in the tutorial section with tips for making better alphas https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/119_tips-for-making-better-alphas/
This might be helpful for you.

it might be because the tightness of your knots varies

Remember techniques will only take you so far- practise is still needed for any knotter 🤗 keep trying to keep your knots even in tightness and take your time to manipulate and fix them as you go and they’ll get better!

I have this problem some times when I rush and try to go to fast, so try to focus on the ends and don't rush them, and when you're getting closer to the edge slow down so you can make your knots nice and neat.

The straight edge technique works but if you also do the flat alpha technique it may look better.

Try and loosen your knots and just go it bit more slow on the last rows
