When you are looking down at your board and you make a knot in the right direction, the string will have ended up on the right side. This is a forward knot. In the left direction is the backwards knot...if that makes any sense 🙂

Yes so the arrow means different types of knots. So you have your forward knot(when the string starts on the left and ends on the right/ the arrow will point right.) then your backward knot (when your main string starts on the right and ends on the left/ the arrow will point left.) then you have your forward backward knot (strings starts on left and knots so it ends on left so you do one single knot forward then one single knot backwards/ string points left.) and your backward forward knot (strings starts right and string ends on right/ arrow points right.) And on alphas you knot forwards and backwards instead of diagonally so it'll tell you whether to do forward or backward knots for each row.

When it's an arrow forward that's a forward knot, arrow backward- backward knot 🙂
