so i just started making alphas and my knots are diagonal. i’ve been using the straight edges technique but they are still diagonal. is there a way to correct this or is it normal?

yeah it’s normal for your knots to look diagonal

In a normal pattern it’s normal but in an alpha no you can always push you knots up straight so they are in line

if they are not appearing in a straight line, you can push the knots up with your fingernail to adjust them! Id recommend starting the pattern with a flat level , for example, some tape in a straight line or a clipboard!

In an alpha pattern, what does the diagonal line (that is behind a knot extending to another knot in the row below) mean? Thanks,

@TheBeaver you are looking at the pattern map! Basically it is signifying where the string travels to to be incorporated to the row where it’s needed. Say I’m making a be with alternating black and yellow. I start making a row of black, followed my a yellow, but then another black row. The diagonal thread signifies that black moving to the next row it’s needed from behind the pattern

@TheBeaver when you are done making the alpha you can look at the back of it and see all of the different lines on the back of it. it is the same thing when you look at it on the pattern!

Hi Krisknots, yes it is the case and directs it as that first colored knot of the next row. But then I get the notion it doesn't need to "secured" or that that colored string just drops to that next row position.

Hi anonte2, yes indeed ... the back of my unfinished/abandoned alphas (they're hard!) look like a mish-mash of strings.
