Hello! This is going to be long so feel free to go to a shorter question. I used to do friendship bracelets about 2 or 3 years ago. I only knew how to do candy Stripe and Chinese staircase. Now that I’ve been so bored due to the world pandemic. I came across all my string when going through my craft closet (do we all have one of those?) I made a few basic candy stripes over a few days and began to research on YouTube for friendship bracelets YouTuber. I found quite a few and fell in love with the designs that YouTube’s were doing such as arrow heads, starburst, and ALPHA. So I made a basic Chevron to work on my inverse 4s or what ever it’s called. I made 2 of those. But I would like to get into more cooler designs like a I listed before. I also want to get into alphas. Does anyone know where I should start? I want to try to learn how to read pattens so it would be nice if the bracelets had both a video and a pattern with it. Well that is so basic bracelets at least. I know how to read alphas and switch colors I just need to know what patterns I can do that aren’t to crazy hard like a person or animal design. So basically can someone give me tips and patterns to help me get out of the newbie stage of friendship bracelets? |

Practice practice practice and learn to swim before you jump into the deep end. If you are just learning/still new at alphas start easy. I recommend a 2 color alpha thats 8-14 base strings wide so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Always start with a candystripe it chinese staircase and go onto chevron. You need to make your way up when it comes to skill levels. If you can do a chevron no problem then you should be able to make a alpha no problem. After that in terms of normal patterns just keep increasing the difficulty in your patterns until you can do what it is you enjoy making

One very easy normal pattern is #44051 by_kinseyb. It helps start you into harder bracelets. It’s a mix between chevron and diamond. It’s a really good starter bracelet and it’s really pretty.

Masha Knots is a YouTuber who has really clear and helpful tutorials. She has a whole playlist on beginner bracelets and a video on how to read patterns, along with videos on specific techniques and things you can do to make your bracelets look nicer. I recommend going to her channel and watching some of her videos

I recommend you make the distorted chevron ( #25049 ) and the the fishbone chevron ( #7954 ) after that you can try to make the dovetail bracelet. From there you should be set to make any normal pattern! For your first alpha I recommend #47568 (the vertical wave bracelet) but use two colors instead of 5. Then, try the rainbow alpha ( #25493 ). I hope this helps! 🙂
