i just add another string to the pattern so that i can have an even number. or, you could just tie a knot with the string that isn't folded in half onto the keyring hook and have a little base string tail sticking out, but personally i prefer the first option.

I personally always take the background colour and have in beeing the base string and the other half is the string I will knot with

Another way (my preferred way), is to take a single strand of thread and pull it apart so you have two equal strands, with one of those strands make the Larks-Head Knot onto the key-ring, and once its on it will come together to make one strand. 😉🤪

I like the way to add not only one strings more (to make it even) but to add about five/ seven strings extra ( then it´s even too). With the remaining four/ six threads you can make a tassel, with the rest of strings you simply knot your pattern 😄

I like to make my leading strin one of the base strings too! Basically i fold by leading string making one side the same length as my base string and then do the larks head knot. I acctually prefer that because it secures the end ofy

What I do when there’s an uneven number of base strings in a keychain pattern, I fold the last string so that one end is longer than the other, then I secure it to the keyring with a larks head knot. Then, I tuck the shorter end behind one of the strings in the back when I’m done. You could also cut it off if you want, but only do that once you’re completely done, that way the knots don’t unravel.

If you have an even amount of strings then you put the bg color on the keychain. If you have an uneven amount of strings then you take the bg color and just start from the side like you would do putting in a new color!

i will just add all of the strings and then if there is an extra one i will cut it off at the end. to make sure nothing happens to it i put a bit of clear nail polish on the ends of it

What I would do is to do lark head knots on the key ring. But when you do the first larks head knot, make sure it is the color of your first row of knots. Then continue putting your base strings on the key ring. When your done, you can make the first row of the alpha. I very much hope this makes since. I tried explaining on how to do it.

Put all but one base string on as normal, then cut your first leading string a bit longer than usual. tie this to your keyring ensuring that the longer end is on the left, then make your bracelet as normal, using the shorter end of the leading string as a base string.
