Watch masha knots flat alpha tutorial. Then find a small alpha pattern with only 2-3 colors and less than ten strings and try it! Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Knot consistency is really important (the tightness of your knots) otherwise the edges will be wavy also watch lots of YouTube tutorials I find that they help loads

Tutorials, practice, and more tutorials! Masha Knots videos are really helpful to learn how to switch colors and other important techniques used in alphas. You may want to start with a rag rug (or even a vertical wave bracelet) before you dive into more difficult alpha patterns, if you don't know how to make these there are plenty of videos online to help 😉 Then I would move on to simpler patterns such as #4847 with only a few colors and not many base strings. Hope this helps- once you get into it alphas are super fun to make!

I would say watch masha videos hers really helped me out! And start with simple ones where it would be little name bracelet of just 2 color ones so you only have to put in a couple of strings

Don't get discouraged! Your first alphas probably won't look great but practice makes perfect.
