I recently saw Masha’s video on how to keep your edges straight on normal patterns, I honestly didn’t understand much, all i got was to do a fb/bf on the beginning and end, what confuses me is how to add that to a pattern. Can anyone explain it better or lead me to another video that explains it??

I like that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hft_KoLaUCc
But I have never watched that video of Masha Knots. Therefore I´m not sure whether it´s explained differently and more understandable. Hope it helps anyway 😄

on yes I had issues with that too so in the first row the first knot if you go left to right its backwards/forward you continue with forward knots until you reach the last knot where you do a forwards/backwards. Now row 2 you go from right to left, to do that you make another forward backwards know in the same last string and the leading string should be to the left. You continue row 2 with backwards knots until you reach the very first and so another backwards forward. Then again another backwards forward in the same first string, to start the 3rd row. In reality a backwards forward knot doesn't not change the patter itself, it only changes the position of the leading string. For the edges to stay flat it help by maintaining the leading string always in the inside/ within the pattern.

By the way my replay is base on my knowledge of alpha patters since those are the ones I'm more familiar and confortable with. I don't know if this applies to normal patters. Sicnd you mention masha's video I assume you mean an alpha pattern

Most people do forward backward knots on the edges to keep them straight in alphas and normal patterns! Personally I only do it in alphas, but you just need to make sure your knots on the same tightness and about the same sized string!
