im working on pattern #22037 and i dont know how long to cut my base strings because this is my first alpha

That depends on how long you want to make it. If you want a full bracelet out of it, I would recommend using thread and wrap it 3-4 times around your wrist, then cut it. If you want a smaller alpha you can use only half, for a keychain even less string. I hope that helps and good luck with your alpha🥳😊🍀

If you’re making it into a bracelet (as opposed to a keychain/patch) then the base strings should be the length that you want the bracelet to be, plus the combined length of the ties. Unlike the strings when you make a normal bracelet, base strings don’t shorten as you go along because you never knot with them, just onto them

base strings aren’t the same as strings you knot with on the alpha so you’ll want to cut them shorter- either as long as you want to bracelet/ keychain / wall hanging 🎠💌🎡🍓

I always cut my strings super super long just in case! And the rest of the string I just cut it and save it for another bracelet

I just started my first alpha yesterday (#51356) and I cut my base strings about 2 1/2 feet long.

If you are making a bracelet, think about the length of it. If you want the bracelet itself to be 15cm then measure out 16 from your base string. For regular sized ties on both sides you need about 15-16cm. So you need your base strings to be about 48 cm. Unless you are doing a loop, then you will have to double that length but use half the number of string. I do this and never had an issue with not enough string and I this does not waste a bunch of string. I hope this helps. Good luck. 👍
